No Work Experience?

No work experience:

How to Land a Job Even with Little to No Experience

Do you have a target job but are hesitant to submit your application because of your lack of experience? Whether you are a fresh grad looking for your first job or you just want to try a new career, you may feel limited because you do not have the required experience.

It’s the dilemma for most first time job seekers here in the Philippines. You can’t get a job if you don’t have experience, but you need that first job to have that experience.

Do not despair. Lack of work experience does not mean you cannot land a job. You just need to make use of your skills and the perfect opportunity. Read on to find out how you can still impress employers and be a strong candidate for the job.

Target entry-level positions. Entry-level jobs do not expect applicants to have years of experience. This may not be a high-paying job but at least you can gain experience from here which you can put on your resume. Sometimes it’s better to start from the bottom and work your way up.

Tailor your resume. Before sending your resume, check the job posting and identify which skills the employer is looking for. Your resume is the perfect opportunity to showcase your skills and educational attainment, that’s why it is important that you highlight your skills, achievements, and other qualifications that match their job description to increase your chances of being shortlisted.

Highlight your academic achievements and soft skills. Lack of relevant work experience does not mean you are not qualified. Your educational attainment will speak as your preparation for the job. Emphasize your academic works, projects, and soft skills such as leadership, professionalism, public speaking, etc. on your resume. Highlight your strongest relevant skills and personal qualities. You may also mention your internship as long as it is relevant to the positions you are applying for.

Network. If you lack the required experience, get your contacts to recommend you. Find a personal connection. Being recommended by someone from the organization gives an impression that you are trustworthy. Some employers look for references before making an offer. They may sometimes overlook the experience if you come with a recommendation from someone they trust.

Little to no experience should not stop you from pursuing your career path. Remember that not all employers always pick an applicant just because of the experiences listed on their resume. Sometimes, you just need to build yourself up, market your skills and let the employers see all the potentials you can offer for the position and the success and development of their organization.
